Length: Four Semesters (Two years of full-time study)
Purpose: The Liberal Arts Associate of Arts degree represents the first two years of many four-year college or university liberal arts majors. A challenging core of requirements is augmented by transfer electives, which will be chosen from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics. After completing the first two years at MGCC, the student will be able to transfer into the third year of a four-year college or university liberal arts major. The Liberal Arts Associate of Arts degree supports transfer to study arts, literature, philosophy, music, and other liberal arts programs in four-year universities.

Components: The Liberal Arts program is comprised four components:
- SDV 100 College Success Skills (1 CR)
- Uniform Certificate of General Studies (31 CR - 33 CR)
- Liberal Arts Specialized Requirements (12 CR)
- Transfer Core (16 CR - 18 CR)
TOTAL 60 CR - 64 CR
College Success Skills is fulfilled through SDV 100 and is intended to be taken during or before the first semester of college study. The Uniform Certificate of General Studies (UCGS) is a stacked certificate designed to be completed during the first year of study and consists of 7 different blocks. Liberal Arts Specialized Requirements fulfill requirements in Liberal Arts pathways. Transfer Core are designed to be completed in the second year of study. Transfer Core must be courses intended for transfer to four-year institutions. Students should consult with their faculty advisor or counselor and the college or university where they plan to transfer, to confirm the transferability of the course. Students are encouraged to follow pathways established through TransferVirginia.
Admission Information: In addition to the general admission requirements to the College, students whose placement test scores indicate the need to increase their level of proficiency in reading, writing and/or mathematics will be required to take appropriate developmental courses. Enrolling in developmental courses may increase the length of time necessary for completing the chosen course or program of study but will enhance the student’s preparation for college-level coursework and increase chances for successful attainment of academic, occupational and personal goals.

Graduation Requirements: Students must complete the required courses in the curriculum and achieve a 2.0 minimum grade point average to receive this academic award.
