Description
Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications, lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses, and factories. They work with wiring and other electrical components, such as circuit breaker panels, switches, and light fixtures, and they follow blueprints, the National Electrical Code® (NEC) and state and local codes. This program provides four levels of training designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and complies with and complies with the DOL standards for related technical instruction in registered apprenticeships.
Through a combination of convenient online exercises and live classroom/lab training, this four-level, hybrid program presents theoretical and practical skills essential to your success as an electrician.
- Level 1 introduces students to the electrical craft with orientation to the electrical trade, electrical safety, introduction to electrical circuits, electrical theory, introduction to the National Electrical Code, device boxes, hand bending, raceways and fittings, conductors and cables, basic electrical construction drawings, residential electrical services, and electrical test equipment. Pre-/co-requisite: NCCER Core.
- Level 2 focuses on alternating current, motor theory and application, electric lighting, conduit bending, pull and junction boxes, conductor installations, cable trays, conductor terminations and splices, grounding and bonding, circuit breakers and fuses, control systems, and fundamental electrical concepts. Prerequisite: NCCER Electrical Level 1.
- Level 3 covers load calculations for branch and feeder circuits, conductor selection and calculations, practical applications in lighting, hazardous locations, overcurrent protection, distribution equipment, transformers, commercial electrical services, motor calculations, voice/data/video circuits, and motor controls. Prerequisite: NCCER Electrical Level 2.
- Level 4 continues electrical training in load calculations for feeders and services, health care facilities, standby and emergency systems, basic electronic theory, fire alarm systems, specialty transformers, advanced controls, HVAC controls, heat tracing and freeze protection, motor operation and maintenance, medium-voltage terminations/splices, special locations, and fundamentals of crew leadership. Prerequisite: NCCER Electrical Level 3.
