Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA), FastForward Credential Program

Description

Clinical Medical Assistants (CMAs) perform clinical and administrative tasks in medical offices and specialty clinics for internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, neurology, dermatology, chiropractic and other health practitioners. CMAs may be found on both the front-line and in the back-office of clinical care, and are often the first healthcare professional to interact with a patient during a visit.

Students who complete CMA training and achieve a passing score on the CMA certification exam are equipped with the foundation and skills needed in modern healthcare settings, including:

• Effective communication and patient interaction

• Accurate reading and documenting of medical records

• Taking vital signs, assisting with minor surgical procedures, giving injections, preparing blood draws, wound dressing, etc.

• Exam room preparation and infection control

• Understanding and executing directions from healthcare supervisors

Trainee Requirement Details

Includes up to 160 hours of lecture and hands-on labs. An optional clinical externship of up to 120 hours is recommended. Trainees must be at least 18 years of age. Background check, drug screen and successful completion of First-Aid/CPR course for healthcare workers (included) is required to participate in clinicals.
