Length: Four Semesters (Two years of full-time study)

Purpose: The General Studies Associate of Science degree is a flexible program designed for students who are undecided about their major and want to earn an associate degree while exploring their academic interests. The program includes College Success Skills, the Uniform Certificate of General Studies, and the Transfer Core. Students are strongly encouraged to choose a transfer pathway-Business Administration, AS , Education, AS , Liberal Arts, AA , Science, AS , Social Sciences, AS -and to work closely with their academic advisor. Advisors help students follow a Common Curriculum developed through the Transfer Virginia Partnership, which supports smooth transfer to four-year institutions.

Degree Requirements: 

1. SDV 100  , College Success Skills (1 CR)
2. Uniform Certificate of General Studies  (31-33 CR)
3. Transfer Core (28 - 30 CR). The Transfer Core includes courses designed to transfer to four‑year colleges and universities. Students should work with their faculty advisor or counselor and check with the college or university they plan to attend to make sure the courses will transfer. 

Admission Information: In addition to the general admission requirements to the College, students whose placement test scores indicate the need to increase their level of proficiency in reading, writing and/or mathematics will be required to take appropriate developmental courses. Enrolling in developmental courses may increase the length of time necessary for completing the chosen course or program of study but will enhance the student’s preparation for college-level coursework and increase chances for successful attainment of academic, occupational and personal goals.

Graduation Requirements: Students must complete the required courses in curriculum and achieve a 2.0 minimum grade point average to receive this academic award.
