Description
The Commercial Driving Program prepares students to successfully obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate large, heavy vehicles in intrastate and/or interstate commerce.
Students who complete the commercial driving program and achieve a passing score on all required knowledge and skills exams are equipped with the basic skills needed for an entry-level driving job as a Class B permit holder in the transportation industry, including:
	- Conducting Vehicle Inspections
 
	- Use Hazard Perception and Avoidance Skills
 
	- Operation of manual transmission
 
	- Basic Backing and Vehicle Control
 
	- Safe Driver Behavior
 
	- Accident Procedures
 
	- Emergency Maneuvers
 
	- Skid Control, Recovery and Avoidance
 
	- Speed and Space Management
 
	- Hours of Service
 
Successful completion of this course, along with the passing of the state administered on-road skills test, will result in an award of the following credential(s):
	- State issued Class B Commercial Driver’s License and a Course Completion Certificate
 
Trainee Requirement Details
Coursework includes 40-hours of training:
	- 8 hours of classroom instruction
 
	- 13 hours of behind-the-wheel training
 
	- 3 hours designated for the final DMV Skills Exam
 
The trainee must be at least 18 years of age. All students are required to complete a D.O.T. Medical exam and obtain their CDL-B learner’s permit before they can begin the behind-the-wheel portion of their training.
