Emergency Medical Technician, FastForward Credential Program

Description
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is designed to produce competent entry-level emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who can service the community with basic life support care via the EMS infrastructure. Employment opportunities for EMTs may be available with Ambulance, Fire and Rescue Services, Hospitals, Government Departments, Sales and Humanitarian relief organizations.
Students who complete EMT training and achieve passing scores on the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) and/or Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services exams are equipped with the foundation and skills needed in modern emergency healthcare:
- Effective communication and patient interaction
- Accurate reading and documenting of medical records
- Administering and assisting with emergency procedures, wound dressing, etc.
- All aspects of pre-hospital basic life-support
- Understanding and executing directions from healthcare supervisors
Trainee Requirement Details
Coursework includes 120 hours of training, including both lecture and hands-on labs. Trainees must be at least 16 years of age and successful completion of the included First-Aid/CPR course for healthcare workers course is required. Students may not have been convicted of a disqualifying crime as mandated by the Virginia Office of EMS.
